Are Standing Desks Good For You?

A standing desk is a desk that is designed for you to work comfortably standing up.

For office workers that sit for most the day a standing desk is a very good idea.

Having a desk that can easily adjust from sitting to standing or two desks that you can work from; one sitting and one standing is very good for you. It helps improve productivity and negates the negative effects of sitting all day. The British Journal of Sports Medicine recommends you spend at least two hours a day standing and gradually work up to 50% of your work day.

Many forward-thinking companies such as Google, Microsoft, Facebook and The White House offer standing desks as part of their wellness programs.  Even Steve Jobs recognised the importance and health benefits of standing. The new Apple watch includes a stand counter as a key feature of its activity tracker. The Stand ring shows hours in which you've stood and moved for at least a minute.

In New Zealand we supply sit-stand desks to companies such as Les Mills, Spark, and Sanitarium to deliver a more ergonomic workplace as well as support employees with health issues e.g., Arthritis.

ACC has recognised that sit-stand desks can help reduce pain and improve productivity for people with a variety of health issues. This is why we are an approved ACC provider. If you know of any family or friends suffering at their desk a sit-stand desk could be a good solution.
